Rik Flynn
Lecturer, Music Journalism *
Rik Flynn teaches at BIMM Music Institute Brighton. He is an editor, freelance journalist and musician who has been immersed within the music industry for over 20 years. As a journalist, he has edited both Classic Pop and Vintage Rock and has contributed to Arena, Guitar Magazine, MusicTech, NME, and Long Live Vinyl amongst others.
He was one of five shortlisted for the 'Rising Star of The Year Award' at the Independent Publishing Awards (PPAs) in 2015. Outside journalism, Rik had two Top 40 hit singles and a Trevor Horn-produced hit album on EMI Records with his most recent band Captain, as well as a Top 5 indie hit album earlier in his career while signed to Steve Lamacq's Deceptive label.
He has toured the world, played numerous festivals and has performed alongside the likes of Kaiser Chiefs, Hot Chip, Magic Numbers, Keane and The Cribs. Aside from interviews with many of his musical heroes, career high points include two shows at Alexandra Palace, headlining the Q stage at Glastonbury and an arena tour of Japan.
